Major autohemotherapy with ozone (MAHOT) for allergies is an advanced treatment method based on the reinfusion of the patient’s blood enriched with an ozone–oxygen mixture to treat various conditions, including allergic reactions.
The therapy is actively used at the “Alternativa” Medical Center, where specialists apply modern techniques to achieve optimal results.
What is major autohemotherapy?
Major autohemotherapy is a procedure in which the patient’s blood is enriched with an ozone–oxygen mixture and then returned back into the body. The ozone–oxygen mixture, a highly active form of oxygen, has powerful therapeutic properties due to its ability to combat inflammatory processes, destroy pathogenic microorganisms, and improve tissue oxygenation. In the context of allergy treatment, MAHOT helps normalize the immune system, reducing its excessive reaction to allergens.
Mechanism of action of the ozone–oxygen mixture
The ozone–oxygen mixture (O₃) consists of three oxygen atoms, which gives it high reactivity. In medical practice, the ozone–oxygen mixture is used in different concentrations. When it comes into contact with biological tissues, it activates the body’s antioxidant system, stimulates immune cells, and improves metabolic processes at the cellular level.
When the ozone–oxygen mixture enters the blood, it rapidly interacts with the lipid membranes of erythrocytes, leukocytes, and other cells.
The interaction of the ozone–oxygen mixture with blood triggers a number of biochemical processes, such as:
- increased activity of antioxidant enzymes
- reduction of inflammatory processes
- activation of immune cells
- improved microcirculation
Thanks to these effects, MAHOT helps the body effectively cope with chronic inflammation and allergic reactions.
How is the procedure performed?
The MAHOT procedure consists of several sequential stages controlled by specialists to ensure patient safety.
- Blood collection. The procedure begins with blood withdrawal from the patient. Usually, 100–150 ml of blood is taken, equivalent to about two standard medical tubes. The collection is performed under sterile conditions using disposable materials to prevent infection.
- Enrichment of blood with an ozone–oxygen mixture. After collection, the blood is placed into a special sterile container, where it is saturated with the ozone–oxygen mixture. The concentration is determined by the physician based on the patient’s condition, disease type, and other medical indications.
The saturation process takes several minutes. It is important to note that the ozone–oxygen mixture does not remain in its original form but quickly interacts with blood components, forming peroxides that trigger therapeutic processes.
- Reinfusion of blood into the body. After saturation, the blood is returned to the patient. The ozonated blood immediately activates immune processes, helping fight inflammation, infections, and allergic reactions.
- Duration and treatment course. A standard course includes 8–10 procedures performed twice a week. The duration depends on disease severity, overall condition, and response to therapy.
Indications for MAHOT in allergies
MAHOT is indicated for various allergic conditions. Ozone therapy helps improve immune response and reduce allergy symptoms. Main indications include:
- Allergic eyelid dermatitis
- Allergic pharyngitis
- Dust allergy
- Allergic glossitis
- Animal hair allergy
- Allergic keratitis
- Allergic contact dermatitis
- Allergic conjunctivitis
- Allergic pollinosis
- Allergic rhinitis
- Rice allergy
- Occupational allergy
- Allergic sinusitis
- Asthmatic attacks
- Allergic skin lesions
- Sun allergy rash
- Quincke’s edema
- Food intolerance
- Allergic tracheobronchitis
- Hogweed burn: contact allergic dermatitis
- Respiratory allergic diseases
How does ozone therapy help with allergies?
Allergy is the result of an excessive immune response to substances harmless to most people (allergens). When an allergen enters the body, the immune system triggers an inflammatory reaction causing symptoms such as itching, swelling, rash, sneezing, etc.
MAHOT acts on the immune system in a complex way:
- Immune response modulation: the ozone–oxygen mixture helps restore balance between pro- and anti-inflammatory mediators.
- Reduction of oxidative stress: ozone activates antioxidant systems, neutralizing free radicals.
- Improved microcirculation: better blood flow accelerates removal of inflammatory mediators and allergens.
Thus, MAHOT helps not only relieve symptoms but also prevent future exacerbations.
Contraindications
Despite its benefits, MAHOT has several contraindications:
- Hemophilia and other blood disorders
- Thyrotoxicosis
- Acute myocardial infarction or stroke
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Before starting treatment, consultation with a physician at the “Alternativa” Medical Center is required.
Effectiveness of MAHOT in allergies
The effectiveness of MAHOT in allergic diseases is confirmed by clinical observations. Due to its immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties, ozone therapy significantly improves the condition of patients with various forms of allergy.
